Let's face it, Christmas isn't for everyone. Sorry, Santa, but it's true. If you're more "naughty list" than "Christmas cheer", and you identify more with Ebenezer Scrooge and the Grinch than Buddy the Elf or Rudolph, don't worry, there's more to the season than giving gifts and cuddling up by the fire. That's why we've rounded up a few of the scariest, most bone-chilling, spine-tingling, and nightmare-inducing holiday-themed haunted houses we could find! There's still limited time to check out these gruesome, gory, and all-around terrifying attractions before Christmas day.

Disneyland

OUR FAVORITE: Disneyland turns the Haunted Mansion into a Nightmare Before Christmas-themed ride each holiday season! The seasonal overlay adds Jack Skellington and his friends to the usual Haunted Mansion suspects who bring their own special brand of Christmas cheer to the ghosts of Disney's famed haunted house. The family-friendly attraction is a huge hit each year!

Misery Haunted House

Misery Haunted House is bringing a little terror to Wisconsin this holiday season with their special attraction, "The Fright Before Christmas". Their one-weekend-only haunt takes place the 9th and 10th and has the elves taking over Christmas... and you don't wanna know what those little creeps have planned. Actually, on second thought, you probably do. Either way, if you want to channel your post-scare adrenaline somewhere, they're having a sneak peek at their laser tag arena, and you can play a quick round inside!

The Massacre Haunted House

And then there's The Massacre Haunted House's "Christmas Nightmare" in Illinois (and no, it's actually not named after spending the evening with your weird uncle). You'll meet zombie toy soldiers, evil elves, demonic reindeer on your way to see Santa... but, of course, he's not the holly, jolly man in red that most people picture. All of this comes from one of the most award-winningly scary haunted houses in the state, so you might want to ask Santa to bring you an extra pair of underwear this year. Just in case.

Brighton Asylum

Thankfully, I'm not the only one who finds the idea of a strange man breaking into your house via the chimney strange: Brighton Asylum in New Jersey has a Christmas haunted house, called "Santa's Slay", that takes you on a tour through Kris Kringle's workshop of horrors: "lobotomized elves mindlessly pack demented toys" as psycho Jack Frost, "rabid" Rudolph, and "chainsaw-wielding Santas" stalk you. As an added bonus, you can sign up for the special "contact" version. They give you a glow necklace to wear as you walk through the halls, which tells the actors that they can touch you for extra scares.

Chamber of Horrors NY

What would happen if Santa found out that no one believed in him or the magic of Christmas anymore, got really angry, and went on a murderous rampage? I'm not entirely sure, but it sounds awesome and super scary, and it's what Chamber of Horrors NY is all about. Previous years featured two "A Very Scary Christmas" shows: "Elf Asylum" and "A Nightmare on 34th Street". Make sure to get a picture on Santa's lap (in case you didn't have your ironic Christmas card planned out yet). And if deep down in your heart you still do have a soft spot for Christmas, you can take faith in the fact that they offer a $3 discount for people who bring a toy to donate!

It should be noted that most of these have super limited runs, often in early December. Buy your tickets in advance... and hopefully, if you try and stick to Santa's "nice" list, he'll go easier on you. But... probably not.
