Because we all know that being normal is vastly overrated.

Nothing gets you in the mood for the Halloween season quite like a spooky movie. The Disney Channel original movie "Halloweentown" might be more kitschy-cute than scary, but it's become a favorite for millennials who watched it growing up. It's fun to remember the days when dressing up and trick-or-treating was the highlight of the holiday, and when you still held on to the last bits of hope that you might have a long-lost relative show up and tell you that you're a witch with magical powers.

Even if you haven't seen "Halloweentown" (or it's been so long that you've seen it that you don't recall all the details), St. Helens is pretty much the perfect destination for fall lovers and Halloween fans alike. Between the stunning foliage of the Pacific Northwest and the many, many seasonal events and displays across the town, it's hard not to fall in love with St. Helens.

The Courthouse Plaza is the center of much of the Halloween fun, and every year, they recreate the "Halloweentown" set, to get everyone in the mood for some spooky fun.

The guest of honor is Kimberly J. Brown, who played Marnie, the main character in the film. You can even buy tickets for a haunted cab ride... remember Benny, the skeleton driver from the movie?

Some of the events on this year's schedule include costume contests (for both humans and animals), meet and greets with stars from shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and, of course "Halloweentown", parades, the annual haunted hot rod, auto & hearse rally, a zombie apocalypse-themed race and a Bonfire and Bones Goth Extravaganza.

The Nightmare on Main Street haunted house is perfect for those who are looking for some adrenaline-pumping jump scares, and many of the local businesses compete in a scarecrow decorating contest.

If you can't make it to "Halloweentown"... I mean, St. Helens, this year, fear not! The Spirit of Halloweentown is a yearly event that lasts from late September until early November.
