So you’re ready to hit the links this weekend, but your regular course is feeling a bit stale. Fret not! We’ve compiled a list of some of the nation’s strangest golf courses. Make sure to bring plenty of golf balls.
If this isn’t the strangest golf course, it’s certainly one of the most scenic. The links at this pristine resort includes a boat ride to the first tee box, customized golf cart, and a forecaddie. The highlight of the round, however, will definitely be the famous 14th hole featuring a movable island green. Talk about a water hazard!
Located in the Alaskan Wilderness, this golf course has an animal checklist on its scorecard. Golfers may see bears, moose, and other animals (as if just playing wasn’t stressful enough). A local rule: If a fox or raven steals your ball, you are free to replace it with no stroke penalty.
Ranking as one of Golf Digest’s most difficult courses, Furnace Creek is situated in Death Valley. Try to stay cool in the California Desert, where temperatures can get as high as 130 degrees in the summer and coyotes are known to wander the course. Don’t say we didn’t warn ya.
Head to the Louisiana State Penitentiary for this 9 hole course, which is maintained by prison inmates. After having your car and belongings searched and paying the $10 greens fee, you are free to play.
This 18-hole course features a four hole stretch inside the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Unfortunately, greens fees do not include a free lap around the track in a golf cart

Western Mass transplant. I like small towns with big ideas, preferably under snowfall.
