Toad Suck is an unincorporated community in Perry County, Arkansas, United States. It is the location of (or is the nearest community to) Bigelow Rosenwald School, which is located at the junction of Arkansas Highway 60 and Bethel AME Road and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The origin of the name Toad Suck is disputed. Some hold it received the name when idle rivermen would congregate at the local tavern where they would "suck on the bottle 'til they swell up like toads", while others believe it is a corruption of a French phrase meaning "a narrow channel in the river." Toad Suck has frequently been noted on lists of unusual place names. The community lent its name to the Toad Suck Ferry Lock and Dam on the Arkansas River. The dam is also a bridge bringing AR 60, locally named Prince Street, across the river. The Bigelow Rosenwald School is inland west of the river while Toad Suck Road is east of the river. Toad Suck Daze is an annual fair that raises funds for scholarships. First organized in 1982, the festival is held annually in nearby downtown Conway during the first weekend in May. Originally held at Toad Suck Park near the Arkansas River Lock and Dam, the festival was moved to the downtown location in 1990 due to flooding at the river and has remained in the downtown area ever since.

This is a nice, clean campground, on the Arkansas River not too far from Conway. There is a convenience store within walking distance if anything is needed. Cell phone reception is good, camp host was very friendly. There was a basketball court, volleyball court and kids playground. It is next to the Highway but the speed limit there was 45mph and all I heard was the occasional loud vehicle.

Friendly Staff, with Friendly Staff, with clean well kept grounds by the water. My site was marginal for the length of the trailer, but the host made some suggestions, and it worked perfectly. I love how a majority of the sites have covered picnic tables.

It was great for a relaxing weekend stay. Right by the water and the locks. I stayed in loop A which was said to be quiet, and it was until 2 trucks with adults and kids pulled up for obvious evening use only to grill and fish. They weren't there but 5-6 hours but it was an unwelcome loud intrusion into an otherwise serene stay. The others were all nice in the campground and they do have a great dump station conveniently located at the entrance/exit. I will definitely stay here again.

We have been driving by the TOAD SUCK PARK sign for 36 yrs. Just got a MH and we stayed here on the way home in mid Sept.. The park had been flooded in Jan or Feb. of this year, but have made a great recovery. Great sites with lots of shade along the AR River locks & dam...I had taken tons of pics, but they were somehow lost after download so this is upsetting. Want to come back and spend lots of days/nights here. Have a boat ramp, covered picnic areas you can rent, shower/bathrooms.

This is a nice Army Core of Engineers Campground. The $10 rate was with the Senior Pass discount. Otherwise it's $20.
Getting into the campground is a little confusing. When coming from the east/Conway, take the first right after you cross over the Arkansas River, even though the campground can be seen on the left. There are no signs indicating to take that road to the campground. This road will take you under the bridge and into the campground.
We were there in February, the off season. The office is staffed between 3 and 5 by the camp host. We had to pick a site, then go back when the office is open to register and pay.
Set on the edge of the Arkansas River, every site has a view. The roads and sites are paved blacktop. Each one has a covered picnic table, fire ring, and a concrete pedestal for your grill. Most sites have 50 amps and water. There was no campground map available upon arrival, so I'll scan the one I have and include it with my pictures.
There is a playground and a sports field. We didn't check out the restrooms. The Verizon signal was strong and I pulled in a good number of TV stations from Little Rock.
Make sure you go back across the river and check out the lock. If you are lucky, you can see a tug push barges through it.

What a nice spot. 'Wish we could have stayed longer here. Our site was on the water and level but not all of the sites are level. Also, make sure you have an extra water hose with you because the water hook-ups are rather far away on some of the sites. The bathrooms are big - shower and toilet combined - and pristine. Shopping and restaurants are only 2.5miles away and yet camping here is like being far away from the hussle and bussel of the town. (The price we paid reflects the Senior pass discount price.)

This was our first COE campground - spacious, huge central area, and only the occasional tug toot in the night.
Water at the site (and an adjacent one) was quite murky - it looked more like tea than water - so we stayed with our own fresh water tank.
You certainly can’t beat the price - or the name!
