“More than you'd expect”
Isaac W. Bernheim established Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in 1929. Groups are welcome for meetings, programs, school outings, guided tours, weddings and other special events. Bernheim has a collection of sculpture on the grounds throughout the arboretum. Its Garden Pavilion landscape showcases small, specialized plantings in eleven triangular shaped beds and a water garden. In addition, The Education Center features a newly designed shade garden around the pool, jazzed-up hummingbird and butterfly gardens, and a renovated Kingfisher Pond.
This was a great stop on our road trip south. It’s right off the highway and provided plenty of opportunities to stretch our legs, eat our picnic lunch, and enjoy the amazing sights. The was a family favorite and we would definitely stop again.
Only been here once, but I couldn’t say more positive things. We planned a day trip expecting to be here a few hours tops..ended up spending 6 hours including pushing the kids along so we actually got to see all three of the forest giants. Easily could spend an entire day there letting the kids explore and taking easy hikes around.
They also just started adding new “playcosystem” areas for kids to play with, and our kids had a blast. They only stopped to eat.
It’s technically free to get in, but they encourage a $10 donation per car load. I’ll happily pay that for the amount of fun we had and to keep this beautiful park around.
The forest giants are a great way to stretch your legs & let the kids have an adventure during a road trip. Just 5 minutes off the interstate. Very fun.
Nice park to visit and stretch your legs after a long drive. Free admission but they do except donations for entry.
This place is so cool! It's a great stop right off the highway to explore and stretch your legs. Lots of kid friendly areas, including "giants" which are natural sculptures sprinkled throughout.
Beautiful forest area to wander around, not too far outside Louisville.
