“Small but gorgeous”
Located near Talihina Oklahoma, in the Ouachita National Forest, Talimena State Park is small but absolutely gorgeous. The park is situated next to the Talimena Scenic Drive in the Winding Stair Mountains and is close to many National Forest activities. During the Fall when the leaves are changing is an ideal time to visit Talimena and to drive along the Talimena Scenic Drive. The scenic national drive is 54 miles long and follows highway 1 from Arkansas into Oklahoma and has no billboards or advertising, it also has many pullouts for panoramic views thought only possible in places like the Smokies. Talimena State Park does allow ATV's and Dirt Bikes as an access point to the National Forest. If you love hiking then this area is a must see, many trails are located in the area as well as the long Ouachita National Recreation Trail. Horse riding Trails are found in the area and Equestrian Trails like Horse thief Springs offer excellent riding.

Nice concrete pad . Some sites have shade. Most sites will accommodate large rigs. Park adjacent to fairly busy road. Road noise was very annoying. Good hiking and beautiful drives nearby.

I'll agree with others that the road noise from the highway can be loud and detract from the experience of wanting to be "away". However the camp managers, their little shop in the office, and the trails to hike made up for this overall. Our campsite was directly over the highway as it came up a gradient however so it might have been less noticeable at other pads.
The hiking at the location is great, and they also have a large amount of traffic for 4 wheelers and other off road equipment if that's your deal.
We also took a trip to Talihina down the road nice little town with a Dollar general if you need any supplies and a couple of restaurants as well.
