“Surrounded by Forests, Fields and Wetlands”
The 5,900-acre Bald Eagle State Park is in the broad Bald Eagle Valley of northcentral Pennsylvania. The 1,730-acre lake laps the flanks of Bald Eagle Mountain, surrounded by forests, fields and wetlands. With two campgrounds, boating, fishing, swimming, the Nature Inn, and diverse habitats that are excellent for wildlife watching, Bald Eagle State Park is a great destination in the heart of Pennsylvania. Recreational facilities are a result of a cooperative effort between the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources-Bureau of State Parks. Picnic areas around the lake all have picnic tables, grills and restrooms. Picnic areas open at sunrise and close at sunset. Picnic pavilions may be reserved up to 11 months in advance for a fee. Unreserved picnic pavilions are free on a first-come, first-served basis. Most boat launches areas have picnic tables, grills and restrooms.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on October 25, 2022We were here in Autumn, so the entire forested hillside all around us was in full, beautiful bloom. Sites are level and paved, each one with a firepit, lantern hook and picnic table. Very easy, level access to get in.
If you have a dog, you can only stay in the Sycamore loop, which has electric hookups but not water or sewage. Without a pet, there's a full hookups loop. Tent camping areas, too.
There are some really beautiful trees in the area, including a giant hundred or two year old oak on the trails immediately behind the campgrounds (towards the reservoir).
Not much in the way of nearby towns, but a gas station (not RV friendly) is five minutes away, and more amenities about 20 miles north on PA 150.

We only spent a single night here, but it was long enough to decide that we need to come back again. Our site was in the non-pet loop with electric and water hook-ups. We had a nice paved pad and a good sized yard with lots of separation between us and the other sites. There are numerous hiking trials that wind throughout the park. We pieced together a 5 mile loop through the woods and across a meadow. While we did not make it out onto the lake for any kayaking, it looked very inviting.
It's also worth noting that the park has primitive sites on the other side of the lake if you don't need hook-ups and want to save some money.

Site included electricity which was nice due the heat and high humidity.
Site was mostly level side to side but had to raise the nose several inches for level. Site included a picnic table and metal fire ring ( both in need of repairs or replacement). Restrooms were ok.
During the week, this was a nice quiet campground. On the weekends the campground fills to capacity with large groups. One site had three cars parked in the site. Range and host drove through the campground.
Lots of biking and kayaking opportunities.

We stayed 4 nights in a 26ft travel trailer. We had electric hookup. Across from us were a few full hook up sites. The sites were big with nice separation between them. The campground has 2 loops. One that allows dogs and the other that doesn't. The park has a few cabins and yurts. There is a lake with a beach and a playground. They also rent boats and jet skis during the summer and on weekends. They have a lodge for non campers. The bathrooms were decent. The campground is about 10 miles west of Lock Haven,Pa. We stopped at the Piper Aviation Museum which is worth a visit. We also went to the Woolrich store. The sites are normally $30 for electric, but if you are a Pa resident 62 or over, you get a discount but you have to ask for it when you reserve a site. The campground is about 20 miles northwest of I-80.

Very well kept, clean park with nice space between sites, clean bathrooms with free showers for registered campers and dish washing sink. Water faucets throughout for easy access (we had electric only site.) Site included a wooden picnic table that was functional but needed either paint/stain or new wood, fire ring/grill and lantern pole. Some sites are very sloped but by backing as far as possible we were able to level our 22' travel trailer without any problem.
Didn't have any interaction with the host.
We checked in on a Friday and our loop was nearly full, lots of families but evenings were quiet.

Large sites. Mostly level. Was pretty empty when we where here. We had electric only. There is dump and water at entrance. Have 2 loops one for pets and one no pets. There are a few full hookups but it seems locals had those. The beach is about a mile away and the lake was s little murky for us. There is also a marina.

While we appreciated the very green park and we appreciated the site spacing and we appreciated that we could get full hook ups, we did not appreciate that our site cost us well over $50 per night and was so sloped, we had to use every single leveling device we own just to get close to level. The prices here are just obscene - $52.00 per night for non residents in the pet loop. That goes to $56 on the weekends. That is just insane. And the whole pet loop thing is annoying. Even though our loop was not full when we were there, every time we went to walk our dog, we got barked and lunged at. I understand why the parks wants to keep the pets in a separate area, but the end result is that all the dogs are barking at each other all the time. It just gets exhausting after a while. Overall, we were just not that impressed with this park.

We stayed here 6/6/2020 to 6/13/2020. We stayed at site 59 which was 30 amp electricity at the Modern Campground . We used our solar to make up for the other electricity needed. The yards for the sites are huge with a gravel area for picnic table and Fire pit. The site was level and easy to get into.
The state park has 2 campgrounds (modern and primitive). The primitive campground is beautiful. There are a few spots for campers but there are no hook ups. There is a dump station but it is on the opposite side you would need it as you leave the primitive campground so the advice is to just go to the dump station at the modern campground. The primitive campground would perfect for tent camping as well. There are stone lined paths up to your campsite, that has a picnic table and fire ring. They are very shaded and seemed so cozy. Plenty of places to hang your hammock!
The modern campground has 2 loops. One loop is for dogs, the other loop is without pets. We were on the pet loop. The bathhouse was clean. There are also cabins and yurts to rent as well.
The campground has over 14 miles of walking paths, a butterfly trail, and a frog pond. My kids loved the frog pond. There is also a swimming beach areas that is open to the public, not just the campground. The lake is gorgeous. If you are a nature lover or a boater this is the place for you. You can rent kayaks at the marina. The campground was very family friendly and quiet hours were definitely observed. Check out is at 3pm. The check in process was so easy. It’s contactless. You simply go to your site and your paperwork is on your post. The camper host was very punctual about getting the site prepared shortly after people checked out.
The ranger gave so much great information as far as things to do. We took a trip to Elk Country and saw 2 huge elk. We also visited the Arboretum at Penn State. The flowers were gorgeous and it was easy to get to. We also took a drive to Dry Run Falls! It was amazing and well worth the drive. The kids loved playing in the water and discovering all the water critters.
We are a fulltime RV family and this was a very nice park that we thoroughly enjoyed. If we have the change to come back we would like to stay one week at the primitive campground and then the second week at the modern campground.

The campground was very nice. Sites were spacious. Lots of walking trails. Nice park for bicycling too. Only negative was our picnic table. It extremely worn. Bench and top severely bowed. On the plus side, they did provide a replacement in better condition.
