“Just next to Cumberland Island National Seashore”
Located on southern tip of Georgia’s Colonial Coast, this park is the perfect spot for enjoying the intracoastal waterway and maritime forest. Campsites are surrounded by palmettos and Spanish moss-draped oaks, while cottages are set near the tidal river. A boat ramp is popular with anglers who often take to the water before sunrise. Just down the road is the ferry to famous Cumberland Island National Seashore known for secluded beaches and wild horses. The park’s nature trail winds through forest and salt marsh, and hikers may see gopher tortoises, fiddler crabs, herons and other birds. A nature center features fish, snakes, turtles and other animals native to coastal Georgia. Visitors may venture to the nearby ruins of a tabby mill, built around 1825 and later used as a starch factory during the Civil War.

My wife and I stayed here last spring and it was wonderful. There are two distinct sections. One is the traditional sites that are wide and not too close together. The other section is much more open covered by tall pines. There is a paved road throughout the park that is great for bike riding. It is nice and quiet and the staff is super friendly. We will definitely return.
Staff and Hosts are so friendly and it’s a beautiful place with clean sites. My only issue was that my Wineguard360 did not receive any unscrambled TV channels and very weak T-Mobile. Maybe it was my location: site 38. Loved the trails!

Another very nice Georgia State Park. Close proximity to St. Marys which is a quaint little historic town and the departure point for the ferry service to Cumberland Island National Seashore. About 10 minutes from I-95 so this makes a great overnight spot for people traveling through the area who prefer to stay in a campground vs. a parking lot. Good shopping of all types within a few miles of the campground.
One of the two campsite loops is fairly open and some of these sites here have a view of the Crooked River. The sites on the "open" loop do not have any vegetation screening the neighbor but the sites are so large that this does not matter. The other loop has a lot more vegetation between the sites so if you crave complete privacy, this is the place to set up. The loop roads are paved.
The sites are well maintained and very easy to get into. This was a remarkably quiet campground (during the weekdays) when we stayed here. We were not here during a weekend and I can see the place being much more lively then.
Excellent Verizon cell and data service.
I never use CG shower facilities so I cannot comment on that aspect of the CG.

We agree with the previous review. This park is well maintained and very close to I-95. We chose this park because it was close to St. Mary's, which makes for an interesting day and a half of exploring. Add another day if you want to go to Cumberland Island. We did enjoy a hike through the park, and the sunset views from the open area near the cabins. We had no trouble getting a reservation, unlike the Florida state parks just across the border which were fully booked. As with all Geogia state parks you can reserve space, but not a particular site. You choose from among the empty sites when you arrive. The rangers and hosts were friendly and the bathrooms were clean. Most of the sites are gravel/dirt. When we had a heavy rain, there was some minor flooding, but it did drain fairly quickly. We choose a site in the more open loop and were glad because in the evening there was a lovely breeze. Our weekday stay was very quiet with only a few other campers. Note that our rate included a senior discount.

As with all Georgia state parks, you select your spot after you arrive. The campground has a road that splits the campground in half and then two loops, left and right, off of that. The left loop is more open than the right loop, so chose accordingly. We chose the last spot on the right side of the middle road. The spots are mostly large, with room between them, but not necessarily providing a lot of privacy. We liked our spot, we had lots of room to spread, with trees around us. We didn't use the restrooms, but we had 30 amp and water at our site. Most of the sites appeared to have water, even though ReserveAmerica doesn't show that.
There are a lot of tall trees that can block your satellite, but we managed to get our portable satellite to work.
The park is quite large, so you have lots of hiking and biking opportunities, unfortunately I crashed my bike early on and didn't get a chance to see all the park had to offer.
If you want to go to Cumberland Island, reserve early. There were no spots on the tour or the ferry for the days we were there. We liked the park and are planning a return trip to try to see all that we missed out on.

Very Quiet and clean campsites. Friendly and helpful staff and volunteers. The sites are all large and very level and plenty of room between sites. Bathhouses (if you need them) are clean. Only 30 AMP service, but they told us are upgrading to 50 AMP starting in July 2017. This is our second time staying here, and will stay again.

Big sites with room between you and your neighbor. Clean bathrooms, showers and laundry. They are in the process of upgrading half the campsite to full hookups so that loop was closed when we stayed around thanksgiving time. Really nice trails to bike or walk. There is a small pond near the drive into the campground that has a resident gator, so watch your kids and dogs. We got a chance to spot him sunning himself on the banks one day. Pretty cool since we are not from the south. Would definitely stay again, only able to stay one night because they were all booked up for the holiday.

We evacuated from coastal North Carolina to Crooked River State Park to escape the wraths of Hurricane Florence (Sep 2018). We were pleasantly surprised by the campground and sights to see in the area.
Our site was located on the center road near the bathhouse. The site was packed gravel and was quite large. It offered 20/30/50 amp service with dual water spigots. We enjoyed morning shade but full sun for the remainder of the day. The temps were in the 90s with heat indexes approaching 100. The evenings usually started with a breeze from the river before calming down for the night. Deep Woods Off kept the mosquitoes and gnats at bay. I would recommend this site during Spring/Fall/Winter. I would choose a more shaded site if staying in the summer. You can now select a specific site when making reservations in a Georgia State Park. While we were there, the park had a service in taking down leaning trees and trimming dead tree branches.
The bathhouses were exceptionally clean. Toilet tissue was always stocked. They offered soap and an excelerator hand dryer. No cobwebs hanging out in the corners or grubby looking floors at this campground. Water pressure was good. Hot water was plenty. Lighting was great. It was nice and bright. The only issues I observed were no exhaust fan to move the air and the door to the female bathroom wouldn't close all the way so gnats and mosquitoes would make it in.
The bathhouse also provided a washer and dryer. $.75 each. Looked brand new and worked great.
The camp hosts/volunteers were fantastic. They maintained that campground like it was their home. They were friendly and always out and about checking on the sites. The campground was very quiet at night. The visitor center had a few camping supplies, a nice gift shop, ice and ice cream.
There's a lot to do in the area. Visit Historic St. Mary's, drive down to Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, take the ferry to Cumberland Island, drive up to Jekyll Island, or fishing, boating, and hiking trails within the campground

Stopped on our way to Florida luckily it was during the week. Think you’d prob need a reservation on the weekend. Well keep park. All sites gravel but level. Several pull through. Space between sites not totally private but enough. Lots of camp activities on the weekends. ( arts and crafts) even at this time of year. Some tv and good cell.
