The Metal Museum located on a 3.2 acre site overlooking the Mississippi River, just south of downtown Memphis, opened its doors to the public in 1979. The campus now includes galleries, a blacksmith shop, the Lawler Foundry, the repairs and restoration lab, a library, sculpture gardens and a gazebo all overlooking the Mississippi River. The property, which includes three historic buildings, was formerly part of a public health service hospital.

I’m from Memphis and this is a hidden gem especially if you like metal art. Go to Fino’s in midtown and get some Italian sandwiches to go and have a picnic on the grounds of the museum which is right on the Mississippi River.

This was a neat place to visit with history of metal and blacksmithing. We were able to see a demo.

It sits between the river and an abandoned army reserve building.

This museum is full of eye catching pieces and even more eye catching views of the Memphis area and Mississippi River from the top of the bluff. The demonstrations are very neat and the exhibits are well curated. The store is also full of great trinkets that support true artists, not just road-side "I was here" stuff. I'm excited to go back soon and see more!
