Cape Blanco State Park Campground

Cape Blanco is a beautiful state park. Pretty much all of the sites in this campground are good sites. They're nicely spaced and the natural landscaping is abundant.

During our stay the winds were whipping, but we were protected by the trees, making for a hypnotizing ambient sound.

I was able to get 3 bars of AT&T 4G and 4 bars of Verizon 4G with the Wilson Sleek Booster.

This is a fantastic park -- the sites are big and well spaced, there's a lot of trees and acess to the ocean. We stayed in a cliff side spot and it was awesome.

We didn't have a reservation, but crossed our fingers that there would be an opening. Yay! Arrived around 1 pm and scored the last spot in this well-maintained park. A9 was one of the sunniest spots in this heavily wooded campground.

We walked along the beach overlook path towards the lighthouse and stumbled upon the Cape Blanco Slope Fest (soaring) event which was enthralling to watch. Spied a couple of whales spouting, and observed a wrecked ship being slowly dragged along the beach to the south by two caterpillars as part of a salvage operation.

We enjoyed a tour of the Harris House the next morning on our way out. Don't miss it!

Update: We just stayed 4 nights in August of 2016, in the same spot as last year (A9 which is sunnier than most at CB). During this visit we hiked both north and south beaches several times, did the proper lighthouse tour (free with our National Park pass). We also whale-watched from the bluff overlooking the south beach. Even though the fog rolled in and we experienced serious wind, the sun came out enough each day to warm us up. We could have stayed forever!

Cell phone signal seemed stronger this year (Verizon LTE, two bars, plus we have a booster now which probably helped.

We spent the end of June through Independence Day here. It's a first come, first serve campground, but seemed to have a least a couple spots open up almost every day. Half the campground is under the shade of trees and half is more open with some sun. Although pretty, it got chilly under the trees and we often ended up in our friends' site in the sun.

You can walk to beautiful cliff views or down to the beach. You have water and electric at your site and very clean restrooms and showers in the center of the cg. The showers are nice and warm, just avoid the third one in the ladies' stalls. The spray is misty and lets in too much air to stay warm.

Very popular in the summer so we never go there at that time. Beautiful walk down to the beach and trails all around. Full hookups but no dump.

Arrived after dark in the rain, but was able to select a secluded site that was high and dry. Site had partial hookups electricity and water. The dump station was out of service. Self-registration and payment are at the campground host Site #50.

Fortunately, in the morning the clouds broke and we had a nice walk from the dayuse parking to the Lighthouse even though tours are not offered from Oct-Mar.

We did not have cell reception on ATT, but we did have data with our Hotspot.

Sites are very private with good natural blocks from neighbors. There is a breeze I hear in the tree tops but at site, it is calm. Here in June and they were down to about 4 sites left. Sites are nice and flat and for our tent trailer, perfect. We will wxplore the trail to the beach after breakfast and check out the light house as well. Highly recommend.

No reservations needed. Get there early though and wait for people to leave. They fill up fast. We had lots of afternoon sun in our site. Very windy and chilly mid July 2018 but so worth it. Lots of trails. No dump station but you can use the nearest state park for free at Bullard Beach to the north or Humbug SP to the south

Cape Blanco's campground is one of the best we've ever visited for privacy, site size, and site separation. The generously sized spaces are enclosed in dense forest and each site feels incredibly private. The only downside of the dense foliage is that there is little chance to see and hear the Pacific, even from sites that basically back up to the ocean. But there's no need to worry, as the park features numerous hiking trails that run along the coast, offering breathtaking views of the ocean (dotted with the dramatic rocks of the Blanco reef) and the historic lighthouse. The park also includes a historic homestead. The home and the lighthouse can only be toured from April through October, but the park is open for camping year round.

All sites in the campground are good, but sites on the eastern side of the loop seem to be a little more open and sunny, while sites on the west side are in deep shade. Sites on the outside of the loop are longer and have angled entry, so are the best choice for large rigs. Sites on the interior of the loop are generally shorter and perpendicular to the road. Site 32 is directly across from one of the most open clifftop viewing areas near the campground, so choose a site in that area if you want quick access to watch sunsets. We visited in late October, so we had our choice of sites at the campground. The bathhouse is centrally located in the loop and was clean and functional during our visit.

The nearby town of Port Orford has one gas station and a small grocery store, but the entire area is lightly populated so come prepared with supplies. Despite the small population, we experienced good cell coverage on AT&T including several solid bars of service within the campground. The road into the state park from 101 has some areas in dire need of repair but nothing we considered too treacherous to tow across.

This was a great find as we were heading up the Oregon Coast. The spots are deep and will accommodate long Motorhomes, also each spot is very secluded. There are trails to view the ocean and to walk out to the Cape Blanco Lighthouse. The campground is located above the ocean. Beach access on foot or you can drive out onto the beach. Each spot was water and electric. There are showers and restrooms. What I loved is first come, first served. We are here the end of April with about 5 other RV’s no crowds.
