“A Favorite for Nature Enthusiasts”
Tannehill State Park offers 195 improved campsites divided into three areas with water and electricity supported by two bathhouses and several dump stations. The campground can handle trailers both large and small. There is also a separate area for 100 primitive tent camping sites. Camp sites during special events such as Trade Days and the Halloween Festival are popular and sometimes sell out on a first come basis. Campers at Tannehill gather to enjoy many family friendly activities such as biking, cook-outs, fishing or just relaxing and making new friends. With nearby fishing, train rides and playground, the kids always have a great time at Tannehill as well. Tannehill campgrounds have been a long-time favorite among both RV adventurers and locals alike.

This park is the site of a major Civil War skirmish. They have restored cabins as well as the ironworks that was attacked by the Union army and there are many trails for hiking and biking, including one that leads to a slave cemetery. Roupe's Creek provides a popular venue for fishing. There is also a pioneer farm where they appear to do demos of things like blacksmithing. The sites are a bit close, restrooms clean, they have a country store, and the Alabama Iron & Steel Museum is on site. The park is isolated but a 30 minute drive gets you shopping at Costco or the Galleria mall. It is a very popular family park, so LOTS of kids and a bit noisy. Be prepared to be unplugged, heavy tree cover blocks satellite reception and cell service/wifi is near non-existent.

Just driving through but wished we could have stayed! Only 10 minutes from I20. Over 300 sites, many pull through that accommodate large rigs. Our 35' pulling a Jeep had no problem. 30 and 50 amp at all sites, sewage not available in pull throughs. Nice shaded spots with fire ring and picnic table. Many sites along creeks, no pull through on creeks though.
Civil War historic area with a lot of history. Nice walking/ biking trails, fishing, small store. Craft cottages and flea market weekends. There's much to do with out leaving the park.

An amazing State Park with a wealth of circa 1800’s historical buildings and cabins and of course the Civil War era furnace which is an impressive structure to say the least. Numerous trails for biking and hiking. The campground is situated along a gentle creek. Most are wooded sites offering pleasant shade. Sites are gravel and fairly level ranging in various sizes. Bigger rigs would be more limited to pull through sites as the back-in sites along the creek are smaller accommodating 30 feet or less. Hook ups are well positioned and easily reached. Bathhouse is older but large and very clean, numerous showers, plentiful hot water. Has laundry facility at the bathhouse. This is a first come first serve campground, we arrive on a Wednesday and most of the FHU sites were already occupied. W/E sites less so. I expect weekends this place would be completely full. A great ice cream shop opens in the evening. No WiFi but you would not want it, this place is too beautiful to spend time on the internet. Verizon had 1 bar and no data service available. For the historical experience visit the Foundry and furnace and definitely go see the grist mill and pioneer village. Great place to bicycle around.

We've lived in Birmingham, Alabama for many years and are currently staying around town in our van while we wait to begin traveling full-time in January 2019. Tannehill is about a twenty minute drive on I-20-59 from Birmingham where my wife is employed until the end of the month. The park is conveniently located off the interstate.
The RV park itself is clean and this time of year there are only a few other units, some of a more permanent nature. Our nightly rate reflects the winter weekly rate starting December 1st ($150.00 a week for full hook up).
We've taken several nice walks around the park. I imagine during the warmer months there's much more activity. There's a small gauge railroad for children. If it weren't cold, riding our bikes would be a thing too.
This is a Confederate historical site. There was an Iron Works located here during the war. The drive in is on Confederate Parkway. Honestly, I've experienced so much obfuscation about the Civil War while living in Alabama, any history to be found here doesn't hold much interest for me, the war was such a BS endeavor. The restored log structures are, however, nice.
The bath house I'm using is a bit dated, but clean and the showers I've taken are hot. There's laundry facility located in the bathhouse I may avail myself of before we leave, but I can't say anything about it now. A small camp store sells some food and necessities and serves as the place to check in (first come, first served, no reservations). The folks taking care of things are personable and helpful.

Cool campground. Sites could be cramped during busy season. Thankful we were here in February. Cool history in the area. Bathhouse was ok. Could use some updates but we’ve experienced worse. All in all, we’d come back.

Discount for 62+ age (15%). 3% fee to pay with a card. No WiFi (we don’t have a booster). Very popular park, well used, loved by all, lots to do. Arrived Sunday evening in mid-March and there were few sites available. We had a water/electric site. Not a lot of space between units but certainly enough to enjoy picnic table and fire pit. Pretty clean bath house with private showers and hot water. Nice laundry. Dogs, kids with bicycles, lots of happy family interaction. Because it is so popular and used by so many families it felt crowded.

This park was very crowded with locals which is a good thing for them. Be aware there are a lot of children playing everywhere. The ironworks themselves are closed up so there's not much to see. The historical homes that are there are closed out for the season or during the week. Signage is needed in most areas. This was a good park for water and electric but a little too crowded and close together for us.

Very helpful staff, lovely grounds, great spot for families. Convenient pull thru site, decent enough cell signal for hotspot.
We arrived late, stayed only one night. Did not get to see all of the grounds or hike the trails. Will return soon to stay for a few nights and see the whole place.
