Zebra Slot Canyon

We drove down a 14 mile gravel road to get to this trail. Along the walk, we ran into only a few hikers. It was 100degrees. After walking about two miles, my husband and I stopped and let the other three in our group go ahead. They finally got to a beautiful slot, but no one could actually get to Zebra because the water was sludge and green water was up to your chest. As we all met back up, we ran into a couple who was lost (for 4-5 hours!) and dehydrated.
If you are brave enough to do this hike, you do need at LEAST 2 liters of water and snacks. There’s no shade. The river bed was dried up and the trails are hard to spot. (But they are markers by the stacked stones on most of the trails.) Mark your locations, pay attention to your compass. It would be very easy to get lost. There wasn’t any cell service either. It’s not for beginner hikers!

Just reading the other review here...a great way to get this info beforehand (the water level) is to call the Escalante BLM Office and ask the rangers if they have any recent reports on the water levels. They were able to tell us that someone went the day prior to our hike and didn’t experience water.
