Apparently is compared to the Vatican for natives. Holy sacred land where they were called to by God and where they first received fire. Many people came from all over to bring this fire to their tribal communities.
Pisgah is named after the Mt Moses trekked to talk with God.
Lots of Cherokee history--- stories of people disappearing into caves with mysterious voices (pilot knob) and their creation story. Also has the most quartz at top.
Apparently can see a circular rainbow on NC side of mountain when it rains. Also makes "music" after the rain which has been deprived as sound like angels singing.
Went when I was younger, but I remember the experience very well. I personally think this is a must see if you are in the San Francisco area. So much history here (such as Al Capone's prison cell) and hopefully for most of us, this will be the closest we'll ever get to seeing the inside of a prison in person. Remember it is its own island so you will have to take a ferry out there!
I went as a child, but it is a must see! Truly awesome, but if you are going to make the trip out there, try to do some of the hiking trails and what not! Kind of stinks to make such a long trip out there just to be there for 10-15 minutes.
I went as a child and remember it being fun. We did it while we were waiting for a table at the Cliff House, a restaurant a lot of celebs have visited and left an autographed picture on the wall. I don't remember if the food was good or not but going outside to the camera and looking at the cliffs was beautiful!
Geeky and cool all at once. How many times in your life can you say you've been standing in four different places at once? Worth stopping by if it's already in your route, but wouldn't go out of the way for it honestly
Beautiful view, but I'd advise hiking up to Mt. MacRae instead. No $20 fee and just as fantastic and rewarding of a view!
Truly an impressive sight from afar and close! People jog down the side of it all the time and I'd suggest taking the time to walk from one end to the other!
