The drive to the dunes was so infuriating. I could see the dunes for over an hour, but it seemed we'd never arrive. Just wasn't used to the West, where you can see such distances. But upon arriving it was truly amazing. I'm not sure if there's another similar place on Earth. Arriving in late May or early June would be best - as this is when the snow is melting in the mountains, and a shallow, wide stream of water rushes through the dunes. The kids played, we picnicked, and they rode the sleds down the dunes. Initially I thought I'd climb the highest dune I could find. I quickly found my endurance wasn't up to the task. Be prepared if you plan to hike. No sandals and lots of water.

It was a good first stop in a long trip, but don't be too excited! It's basically a huge store to sell everything branded Duck Dynasty. Good photo-op and that's about it, unless you *really* want to buy a souvenir.

OK, I won't lie. My family was a bit freaked out visiting this location. It truly is awe-inspiring. However, with all the politically-charged messages posted throughout the location, and with the warnings about your valuables being stolen - along with the fact that we were the only ones there (even though there was another parked car) - well, it was disconcerting. However, it was beautiful and amazing. I would encourage anyone to go, but be prepared for what it is - a brilliant project by a disturbed individual.

Wow. What a great visit. Be prepared to question if you're going in the right direction, but if you are using Google Maps' GPS, it will steer you correctly. My family of five were so impressed with this place. We would love to go back and camp out, stay, but that's probably not practical. But we'd encourage anyone with a love of nature to visit. You won't regret it.
