I will have to put this park on my top ten that I have visited. It is gorgeous and there is so much wildlife to enjoy. Please make sure you read the park alerts before coming and plan ahead. There is a reservation system for timed entry.
Greatly enjoyed this KOA! The staff was great and friendly and even cooked a breakfast in the morning! There is also great birding on the grounds. A great place just outside of Estes to relax and enjoy the mountain air.
A warning to your low-landers: 9k ft altitude is no joke if you're not used to it. That's what happened to us here. It is a beautiful park with lovely trees in the back but me and my mother were unfortunately too altitude sick to full enjoy it. The owners however were very sympathetic to our plight and gave on tips on how to do better after a rough night. Sweet owners! Overall great place, just acclimate to the altitude first.
Great place to stop on the way into Colorado. Get out, stretch your legs and learn about a piece of geologic history. You can hike around the cone or go down into the crater to see how nature has taken over since the volcano went extinct.
Staff was friend, place was simple and clean. Perfect for just passing through town. There are also restaurants in walking distance.
Nice quiet campground a stone's throw from the beach. The beach is well maintained and has covered picnic tables available. RV Campsites are back in and support up to 50 amp and water and include a covered picnic table. There are showers on site as well!
One of the coolest little side stops in Texas. Take some time to admire and take cool photos!
You can bring your own spray paint but they do sell some in a truck there as well as other small souvenirs. Be aware that it is VERY windy so keep that in mind.
What I did was I had stencils I cut on a cricut and used those.
A great place to watch some great roller derby!
Rustic and a little iffy on the outside but definitely worth it. After a long hike, this food is incredible and you will want to come back to try their desserts and chicken fried steak!
Full disclosure, I went in winter when all the Maples are bare but it is still a gorgeous park!
Hike across babbling streams, see beautiful views of the Texas hill country, and take your time to hike though this lovely landscape. If you're a newer hiker, be aware that there are steep elevation changes. Make sure you wear good shoes and socks and at least a decent walking stick.
