A good family campground, but not as secluded from the lights of the street and parking lots. Nice bathrooms and showers and someone working the front entrance into the night for late arrivals. Good if you're going to the beach and exploring Virginia Beach, not great if you're looking for a true camping experience.

Very cool experience sleeping on the beach. Woke up just after a sea turtle had laid her eggs just yards away from our campsite. The facilities on the island were great with full bathrooms and showers for campers. Don't bring anything you aren't prepared to get sandy. Make sure you look at the ferry schedule if you have places to be the next day. There are raccoons on the island so bring stuff to seal your food. Definitely recommend this camping experience!

Very cool pit stop to get out and walk with some incredible views, especially at sunset. Get ready to get sandy.

Very picturesque lighthouse, especially when the sun was setting. Admission to go up was $6 but we arrived too late to take advantage of that. Easy enough to stop at on your way up or down the outer banks.

An unbelievable park! The hike to the top of King's Pinnacle was mildly strenuous but completely worth it. If you're staying over night definitely try to make it up there for the sunset/sunrise or both! It gets pretty dark so make sure you bring strong flashlights or headlamps. The campsite itself was great with free firewood and good water. The bathrooms down at the visitor center were very clean as well.

Kind of unbelievable and not entirely sure why it's there. Admission inside was $8, which we didn't think was worth it since we felt that the most impressive photos were from the outside.

Good for a quick stop and to take some funny pictures.

Gorgeous park with relatively secluded and well maintained tent camping sites. The bathrooms were really nice and centrally located. There is a nice short hike you can take near Loop C that leads to a beautiful overlook for the sunset. Technically it's not part of the trail but it's easy enough to find. Only stayed one night but the park seemed to have many activities including a beach.

If you aren't paying attention for the white fence entrance you will drive right past it. June 2014 the gate was open and we were able to park in the field at the bottom of the hill. One of the best stops we had and totally worth the trip. Good luck finding this hidden gem!

Definitely felt creepy taking pictures of this person's house. Would probably not go back unless we were with someone obsessed with coffee pot shaped things.
