My wife and I toured Monument Valley in September 2015. Besides being remarkably beautiful, it was like driving through a John Wayne movie set -- given the fact that many of his Westerns were filmed there. The highlight of the visit for me was my hiking the Wildcat Trail, accessible from a parking lot near the hotel. I didn't set any records, but I thoroughly enjoyed my solo track around the trail, which encircles the Left Mitten. The only truly demanding part of the trail was the hike back up to the parking lot. All well worth it.
