Very interesting place to catch a glipse of an important time in American history. The main site itself isn't very large and I managed to wander through it on my own in less than a half an hour (I would imagine that there are caretakers that can tell you more about the place, but I just looked around on my own). I found it to be fascinating, but I would really only recommend it to anyone who has a deep interest of American military/railroad history as it is otherwise pretty obscure. But, if you aren't in a hurry and need to stretch your legs, take a moment to learn about what the life of a soldier in the middle of nowhere was like back in the days of "Cowboys and Indians".

Great little local restaurant with a classic diner atmosphere. Nice menu variety (I ordered the Benedict Omelette which was amazing) and I like the fact that you can add flavors to the sodas, malts, or shakes (I highly recommend a Hazelnut Milkshake). I will definitely come back the next time I'm in SLC.

Nice, clean, and large rooms. Pet friendly and convenient to I-80. Wi-Fi isn't the best, but it is free. Fitness room is small but the equipment is in good working order and gives you enough options to get a good enough roadtrip workout. Military discount available.

Now called C Punch Inn and Casino, this is one of my few must stop at places whenever I've had to go from coast to coast. Not the fanciest place and Lovelock isn't much to see, but the hotel is clean (recently renovated with new management) and there is a nice little casino and a great little diner attached to the inn. Wi-Fi was pretty reliable and the rooms have a nice mini-fridge. As long as it is around in this form I will always stay there when I'm passing through.

Truckee is a great little spot to stop and spend a couple hours and Cake Tahoe definitely is worth including on that stop. The cupcakes themselves are very good and rich (sometimes maybe a little too rich) and the varieties are incredible. Though not mentioned here, they do what is called a cupcake split where they take the cupcake of your choice, split it down the middle, add two scoops of ice cream, two toppings of your choice, sauce, and whipped cream. Not at all good for a diet, but probably the best little treat I've had on my roadtrip so far.
