We arrived at the Inn at Rodanthe around 7:30pm on August 15, 2020, after 8 hours drive. The day before, we received an e-mail with the check-in instructions, stating that due to Covid they needed extra time to thoroughly clean and sanitize, so the check in was at 7pm, which we understood. Imagine our surprise when we arrived and found out that not only the property was not thoroughly cleaned but it was barely cleaned. The bathrooms had dried up urine on and under the toilet seats, the bathroom sinks had toothpaste and sand, mirrors were dirty and you could clearly see hair in the shower walls and floors. Upon checking the bedrooms, we found out that the bedsheets had not been changed, only the beds were made. Under the cover sheets we found more hair, sand and something that looked that dry grass. Disgusted with our findings throughout we spent the night sleeping on the top sheets and without taking showers. We called the Management office the next morning and they promised to send someone to clean and change the sheets. The Cleaning Manager was not surprised or very apologetic, which leads me to believe that this is not the first time this had happened… A couple, with a child, showed up in the afternoon to clean. They only cleaned the bathrooms and brought in a bag of bed sheets, which upon a test smell did not smell like sheets I would want to sleep in, so we ended up washing sheets for 5 bedrooms and making the beds ourselves on our first day on vacation. The cleaning crew was obviously in a hurry and were not planning to clean a whole lot, because when they were getting ready to leave, we asked them to vacuum and they were clearly annoyed. We asked to speak to a Manager and were seriously considering leaving and going elsewhere, but he said that we cannot get a refund but would give us back the cleaning fee and a small discount. As of today, we have not received any refund back. The property needs a lot of cleaning and dusting. Furniture has not been moved in years. We had to move the couch in the leaving room to find a piece from a board game that fell under and there was about half of inch of dust and other small items from other people who had stayed there before. Of course, there were also roaches… And we paid about $5,800 for a week of stay there. We definitely did not get what we paid for…
