We had the best time making our mark on our way home. Great leg stretch and for a $5 can of spray paint a piece of posterity. Or, at least until someone paints over it.
If you are driving by then stop in but don't make it a destination. It is now $20 to drive to the top. Best to consider a national park pass?
Very Clean and VERY nice staff. However, the beds were so soft my body folded into a "V" when my middle sunk in. Very bad night sleep.
Also, not the hotels fault, but the outside had the strongest urine/ammonia smell. We were unable to run the AC since the smell came into the room.
So, uncomfortable bed and a hot room.
We stayed the night on Larned and stopped here on our way our of town. We could have stayed longer but wanted to get going.
The rangers on staff were very informative and fun.
This is the 3rd fort for us and the 2nd on the Santa Fe Trail. The kids are really piecing US history together by visiting the Historical Sites and all the parks in the NP system.
Plan for an hour to an hour and a half.

Most expensive gas in 1,000 miles. Just drive into Moab and get gas. Its a pretty drive.
Spectacular! We drove from Capitol Reef to Bruce today. It was super beautiful and worth the detour. The rock formations, "staircase" and expansive vistas made my day. Try to hit the drive late afternoon and drive through sunset times.
This was a highlight of our trip. An excellent and well cared for collection of reptiles. The reptile show WAS THE BEST EVER. They brought out the various classes of snakes- mild to aggressive. We have been to many of these reptile gardens across the US (the Albuquerque RattleSnake Museum is pretty great too)
We will visit again, since we are road trippers and wander around everywhere.

We love this place. We come in the off season- November- and go out of our way to to make this a destination. We stay in one of the cabins, with the deck and hang out in the hot tub and lay around, cozily, on faux fur blankets.
It is clean, quiet, elegant and the staff is super nice.
The setting is amazing.
Great stopover on way to.... Really fantastic fort. Set up well with ability to roam freely. We used this as a stopover for picnic lunch on our way up to the Badlands. Next time we will allow more time to investigate
