Petroglyphs seem to be getting hard to find as more effort is put in to protecting them, including not advertising their locations. This place is not well sign-posted, but not too hard to find.

And it is really interesting. We went there on a cold but clear winter’s day. There was a lot of snow on the ground, so the path was a little difficult to follow. There were no other human footprints to follow, but we did see some mountain lion tracks amongst all the other wildlife tracks. Be warned!

There are a few markers along the trail with arrows painted on them. One of them seemed to indicate to go up the hill, but there didn’t seem to be a trail there. Fortunately, we spotted another marker further along, and found the petroglyphs soon after.

There are a lot of really interesting – and some unusual – markings here. Amongst the usual animals and humans were some strange looking creatures, and a couple of birthing scenes. There were some markings from the 1920s and 1940s, which adds a bit of more recent history. I guess the modern graffiti will be historic in a 100+ years too.

As another reviewer has said, it is a beautiful hike, but take water. We went with a 6yo and 9yo, who both managed the hike without too much trouble. You may be the only people out there (as we were), so it might be wise to let someone know where you are going, and when you expect to return.

Interestingly, when I added this site into my Roadtrippers map, it wanted to take us in directly off the I-70 highway. The written directions however are correct in taking you through Emery on Hwy10, then onto the 801 and 805. That’s the way Google maps took us too.

Wasn't expecting much since it was so cheap, and old, but it was a nice place.
Check in staff were not very welcoming, but our double room was good.
Spacious, comfortable, warm, good facilities and information.
Bed was comfy, although the springs were a little noisy when we rolled over.
Apparently the rooms next to the elevator are a bit noisy too.
View out to the west (over rooftop) was not bad, especially at sunset.
I'd happily stay there again.

This place is fantastic. We were staying in Kanab on New Year's Eve, and decided to cross the border after reading some of the reviews. So worth the (short) trip.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We didn't have a reservation, but they gave us a booth. By the time we had finished, the restaurant was almost full. All the customers appeared to be locals too.
Food was excellent. Home cooking, well cooked, good serving sizes.
I had the steak and shrimp special, with cowboy beans and loaded baked potato sides. Delicious.
My wife had chicken fried steak (aka beef schnitzel for Aussies) with brown gravy, mashed potato and coleslaw sides. She loved all of it.
One of the kids had the roast beef kid's serve, and the other had a burger with fries. The roast beef was really nice. The fries were just as good; crunchy exterior, fluffy interior. Without doubt, the best fries we've had in America.
None of us were able to finish our meals as the servings sizes were generous. Cost was very reasonable.
We took some leftovers home in a box, and order slices of home-made apple pie and peach pie to take home for supper.
Cowboy Butte Grill and Steakhouse served us one of the top 5 best overall restaurant meals we've had in 10 trips to America.
Do yourself a favour!

Great cafe latte. They know how to make real coffee here, and even offer an 8oz cup, which is rare in America (but much appreciated by those who don't want to drink coffee by the horse trough).
Also do a very good long machiatto, and offer soy milk, which again seems rare over here.
Coffee isn't their main line of work though. They are actually an outdoors equipment and clothing shop. I'm not into rock-climbing, etc, but they look like they would know their stuff.
Friendly service too.
Do yourself a favour and pay them a visit.
