The hotel is decent but starting to get a bit dated. It seemed pretty clean except I wonder when I see leftover hangers in the closet with someone's dry cleaning receipt attached, the counter in the bathroom is covered in hairspray that easily wipes off with a wet towel and water... The front desk clerk complains that the maintenance man is drinking in the job etc. we hit a river view room but the windows were so dirty it didn't matter. Plus there's an $8.95 resort deeper person but no real resort type amenities. :/
Rumor has it...There's a grave here of a little girl which has a glass viewing window for her parents to go visit her.
Haunted. The mistress of the owner was holed up in the fireplace... They aren't sure if she was alive or dead at the time, but she now haunts the place. There's a coke sign there and the lady's head turns and follows some people as they move about the tavern....And the food was better before it closed and reopened.
This place is really worth seeing, but read up on the history a bit so you get the full effect. A masterpiece of American entrepreneurial spirit left as a monument to the triumph of the human spirit.
Looks like a cute place if you love the stories of the old west. Be aware though, it's only open from May 1 through September.
The community is closed once a year for ceremonies and private time, so make sure to check before you go. The local hotels will know when. In 2014 it was March 8-April 27.
Only a couple minutes off the highway and in an otherwise withering Main Street section of town, it's a gem of americana that's worth the stop.
As we snapped a few photos a gentleman stopped and was chatting. He reminisced to back in 1967 (as a young child), when he stopped in to use the bathroom. The manager told him no on account of the fact that he is black, but another employee told the manager "Oh yes he can and I'm gonna stand right here until he's through!"
I love how doing the right thing, even something seemingly small made a permanent impression in his life. :)
