Did a lot of research on our way here, sad history of the town being bought by the government to create a national park. It is really beautiful there now, but none of the ‘Helltown’ legend stuff is there at all. Just nature, ski resort, preserved farm house hotel, etc.
Such a cute building! Fun for a quick photo op. Looks like they’re open selling ice cream in the summer and google has great reviews on their food— too bad it was snowing when we stopped!
It was closed and getting dark by the time we arrived, weren’t sure how to circle around to get any iconic view, and it cost $10 anyway to even get near the place. We had to miss it unfortunately. Will be back though!
Such a fun photo op! It looked like there was a tiny, shabby, makeshift museum inside?? But sadly not open. Still a cute building though.
There are no signs around anywhere that explain exactly what it is— bathtub sounded quirky until we realized it was actually a hole in the middle of the ground? Near some other water/spring? The visitor center/main building was closed by the time we got there so maybe we missed something, but I wouldn’t go out of your way to go here unless you research beforehand exactly what it is! (Unlike us)
Yeah, it’s a coke bottle on top of a building in a bland area. Fun for a photo op but kind of out of the way.
A little tricky to navigate to, out in the middle of the boonies! But within the state park. You have to circle up the hill but it’s all pretty clearly marked on the park’s tourism sign. Costs $4 to park in the lot for out of state vehicles. Beautiful view, and you can climb up inside (a little dangerous, be sure to use the hand rail!). If you have a chunk of time to stop it’s a nice little walk/hike to stretch your legs, or maybe worth more time for hikers and nature lovers.
Someone mentioned in an earlier comment, it is two miles further down the road. It’s set in the country with lots of houses but such little traffic— the slide area was completely devoid of people, a little creepy at first, but the locals around all looked friendly and waved as we drove past. And the slide itself was such fun! We enjoyed ourselves but we did get sawdust everywhere, had to take a good few minutes to dust ourselves off after!
Right in the middle of the street, you can see it up and down the block! As of March 2019 there is a green Dino behind it too! Surrounded by cafes and little shops, a nice place to walk around for the day if you’re in Baltimore.
We went on a road trip only to see giant roadside stuff, so a cool photo op if you’re in the area! But the area is kind of out of the way and a little sketch, so not an essential landmark. We parked in the company’s parking lot and the truckers driving by definitely were thinking ‘what the heck are these dumb people doing’.
