Our family really enjoyed our trip to Rachel! We were worried about our out and back drive from Las Vegas not being worth it, but it was. The desert drive was gorgeous, especially from Alamo to Rachel. The burgers at the inn were good for the price. There were plenty of novelty items to purchase and photo opportunities. Directions to Area 51 gates were clear even without purchasing the 33 cent map, which we did just for a souvenir. We drove out to the gate, took a picture, saw some antelope, and headed back to town. It was a great adventure! FYI - there is no cell service for a good portion of the ride. Make sure you have plenty of gas and a dependable car. You can go for quite a while without seeing a car.
