We spent 2 nights at Cherry Hill Park while visiting Washington DC on a 10 day, 9 state road trip. Cherry Hill was the nicest park we stayed in on our trip. The amenities were more luxurious than we had expected and the park was extremely clean and well maintained. It was quite cold while we were there, but being from Minnesota, my daughter didn't mind a bit. They opened the pool and let her swim for an hour or so. We ordered lunch from the cafe near the pool and enjoyed the grilled cheese, fries, and mozzarella sticks (coupon received at check-in). The bathrooms were clean and the showers warm. The price was higher than we'd paid in other parts of the country, but it was convenient being so near the National Mall.
My husband, daughter (13), and I spent a day at Gettysburg during our 10 day, 9 state road trip. It was amazing! After visiting the museum and the cyclorama, listening in on a ranger talk, and watching the movie, we hired a private tour guide to take us out into the park. It was a bit of a splurge for us, but so worth it. He road in our RV and spent 2 hours telling us about the battle. We got out frequently and explored the grounds and monuments while he told us stories specific to each site. He also brought us to the monument dedicated to soldiers from our state, a nice treat. We were impressed with our entire day at Gettysburg. I highly recommend spending the extra money to hire a private tour guide.
The statue of Lafayette is in the southeast corner of the park.
Called to place a reservation and 1 night was $81. Wow.
The hotel room was beautiful, but so uncomfortably warm. When we arrived the thermostat was set at 74 degrees. It felt MUCH warmer. We turned the thermostat down to 66 degrees and turned the cooling fan on high. It ran on high for the next 2 days and the room never got to a comfortable temperature. We were never able to open the curtains as the sun just added more heat to the room.
So beautiful and not as many tourists as Yellowstone.
A must-see at Yellowstone. It's amazing to witness in person.
The Mammoth Hot Springs were one of our favorite spots at Yellowstone. The images were so unique and interesting. There were quite a few tourists, but we had no trouble walking along the boardwalks.
LOTS of tourists here, but still a must see at Yellowstone.
We had an RV and decided to stop for lunch along the Lamar River overlooking the valley. It was beautiful! We had a piece of Yellowstone to ourselves! The buffalo were plentiful and fun to watch. After lunch we walked down to the river, but had to leave sooner than we'd intended when a pair of buffalo decided to come closer to check us out.
