This is a trail with minimal shade and a lot of it is a minimal incline. Towards the part of the loop that the dam is on, it gets a little dicey. The trail is not obvious and it requires a little bit of rock climbing. I saw several wild bunnies and birds around the area. There are bees so be wary. An extra part of this loop includes some petroglyphs to check out!
So this place has a rich history which you can read somewhere else. I went in winter around sunset and the smell was not bad. There are skeletons of fish around, but there weren’t too many. It was weird to be on a beach where the “sand” was actually bones. There were a lot of flies, but also a lot of birds. This place is worth a trip to see because the surrounding area is so weird and also because it might not be here in the future !
It’s open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 AM to 12 PM so plan that into your visit. The first time I tried to go it was closed for the holidays. It’s a nice place to go and walk around. It’s in a nice park behind a school. You get some good views from the trail surrounding Queen Califia’s as well.
The Broad ( pronounced Br-ode) was a really cool place to spend a couple of hours! It’s free and you can follow wait times on Twitter. To save yourself some time hurry to the middle left of the ground floor and you’ll find a kiosk— hurry up and reserve your spot to see the amazing Infinity Mirrored Room and then go look around. Also if you hang around the queue and people aren’t showing up, they will sometimes invite you in early.
Cookies are amazing, but be prepared the look for street parking. The lot in front is very busy!
