Definitely worth a stop. Short hike through a tunnel beneath the highway. Perfect way to get out of the car and stretch your legs. If you're lucky enough to hit this without company you can get some great shots. We didn't have flashlights but had some red nightsky lights that produced some interesting pictures.

It's a short hike and not much to see, so if you're short on time, don't feel bad about missing this one. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad hike, but there are certainly better trails to explore. But you can be there and back again in 20-30 minutes.

This was an amazing hike. The Narrows was on my bucket list but the snow melt in April shut it down with no chance of reopening. This hike was on the verge of being shut down but we managed to make it - we even got an email warning us ahead of our hike. It was a lot of river walking in rushing water ready to knock you off your feet. Hiking poles are definitely recommended late spring. It's normally easier to walk the river most of the way, but the river was just too fast and strong, so we did a lot of crossing back and forth trying to stick with what high ground we could find. The water was icy cold and I'm grateful we work neoprene socks and waterproof duck boots. Others had to strip their socks and sun for a while to warm back up before heading back out. By the time we got to the slot canyon, the water was up to our knees. We didn't go beyond the first waterfall because we had been told the water was mid-thigh beyond that and I had a 12 YO with me who was really getting cold after being in the river a solid 45 minutes just getting there. It was slow-go within the canyon as we had to hug the sides to keep from being swept off our feet.
They only allow 150 people in each day, so watch the calendar to see if you need to buy more than a day out (as there are no refunds or exchanges, even if they shut it down). Purchase permits at your own risk.

We hit this as the snow melt had been strong so the pools were pretty full for our hike. We actually began our hike at the Grotto and worked our ways backwards, hitting up the middle and upper pools first. So few people had gotten that far from the Zion Lodge entrance that we had the trails to ourselves for quite a while. The views from up high were breathtaking. Definitely worth coming from the Grotto bus stop if you can handle a little more difficult trail.

I think this may have been our favorite national park in Utah. It was just so beautiful and jaw-dropping, filled with the richest oranges and reds we'd ever seen. Stayed at a cabin at the lodge. Downtown Springdale was charming and fun to spend our evenings in.

The arches are definitely beautiful but I found Arches to be the least interesting national park we visited in Utah. We were content to spend just a few hours there. Still worth visiting, even if you're just driving the roads through.

Lovely trails north of San Francisco filled with towering redwoods. Kids can take a small workbook with them to learn about the woods and become a junior ranger. I've even seen older teens line up to do this and earn their wooden badge. Be sure to get a parking reservation. Check the site to see the exact dates you can log on to get one. They release a chunk about 90 days out and then again about three days out. If you can't secure a reservation, you'll have to get a ride in on a shuttle. Lots of trails to choose from with varying degrees of difficulty, and if you've got limited mobility, you can still go quite a ways on a man-made route before the trails become more natural. Lots of people visiting won't be in hiking attire either; just those venturing farther outward. I found that the trails we went on were pretty well marked to keep us on the right track.

Nice piece of beach to roam if you're out on Point Reyes. The waves crash onto the shore like booms of thunder. Sand dollars peek out beneath the sand. Rough sandstone cliffs jut upward. You can walk to the left freely, but the beach to the right is usually closed off due to the elephant seals raising their pups inside the cove.

Beautiful views and not a whole lot of bodies around it. Even if you can only go so far as the dam, you're gonna still get some great pictures here. If you are able to hike the trail and have a few hours to spare, Wapama Falls is worth the trek out.

This is a beautiful, picturesque trail enroute to two waterfalls, Tueeulala Falls and Wapama Falls. You'll begin at the O'Shaughnessy Dam and travel through the rock tunnel before venturing out. The trail is smooth until you hit that first curve, then it's nothing but rocks underfoot or steps the rest of the way. The reservoir is gorgeous and there are plenty of spots you can stop at to rest and take it all in. Not too many people venture out to this trail, so there are way fewer bodies at Hetch Hetchy than you find in Yosemite Valley. We took our time and completed 5 mile hike in 3.5 hours, but those in good shape can probably have it done in 2 or 2.5 hours if they're in a hurry. Only bathroom is on the road before you reach the parking lot, so be sure to go before you head out. You do have to walk through Tueeulala Falls, so waterproof shoes are advised, or at least an extra pair of socks in your backpack. You'll also get a little wet if you go out onto the bridge at Wapama. But seriously, how could you walk all that way and not go out onto the bridge to visit this beauty up close and personal?
