Getting there is a bit out of the way, 10 miles through the backwoods, but the drive is worth seeing the eerie beauty of this historical site. During the American Civil War, the mansion was used by both sides of the war as an observation platform, signal station, and a hospital. After the Civil War, it was a gathering place for figures who are well known today, like Mark Twain.
