We had a late start so we only hiked the 4 miles to the river and back. It's a busy trail. There is an additional 2 miles you can hike from the river to a waterfall. The entire trail is 11 miles to a private beach. You need a permit for that. Some of the greatest views we saw in Kauai were on that trail. It isn't very strenuous once you pass the first 1/2 mile which is a steady climb. Like I said, it is a busy trail, but everyone was pretty happy and nice. They are hiking along the coast in Hawaii though, right? If you plan on doing this hike, I would recommend checking to see if it is whale migrating season. It would be really cool to watch the whales from the trail. You would want binoculars.
