I really don’t understand how anyone wouldn’t be awed by Crazy Horse.
I loved seeing Mount Rushmore, but was much more amazed by this monument. The entrance fee and the fee to take the bus ride to the base of the monument were well worth it and based on the fact that this is entirely privately funded made me feel good about over spending on souvenirs and even giving a donation to take some of the stone chipped away from the mountain home.
On the short bus tour our driver, Jimmy, gave us great tips on visiting Custer Park and a driving route to get amazing views.
The bison are amazing and the landscape is everything you would expect and more. Watching people get their cars licked by the bison was amusing, but we were scared off of it by our tour guide at Crazy Horse who said they have been known to break mirrors and windows.
Our kids loved this stop. We expected a picture with a giant prairie dog and were surprised by a prairie dog ranch. They had peanuts to buy to feed the prairie dogs and the prairie dogs would come right up to you. Some close enough to grab the nut right from your hand.
The most amazing views we had of Mount Rushmore and we spent hours at the memorial. A surreal experience.
Even though the Bison sanctuary was closed due to , it was a perfect walk around / rest stop.
Fantastic staff, great breakfast. Very impressed by the courtesy call to inform us of the remodeling. Great stop on our road trip.
