Stopped here in mid-October 2023 and left a mark. When I passed by again in late October, the VWs were unburied in preparation of moving to a new location.
Entrance is marked by Show Low city limits sign when driving eastward. Be prepared for a cold night. It’s over 6,000’ elevation. I’d stay there again. Suggestion: block your site with your vehicle if you can, to prevent wayward campers from thinking it’s a driveway.
Every star in the sky! I tent camped in utter solitude. Nobody around the Friday night before Memorial Day. Lots of places with firm level sandy ground. Very few insects and no dangerous wildlife encountered on my stay.
Not a bad “dive” hotel. Affordable and gets the job done. They have smoking rooms and I didn’t see any bugs. Refrigerator and microwave, but no in-room coffee maker. I thought it was a good deal.
The museum had closed by the time I was passing through, but there are plenty of outdoors art objects to appreciate. Nice place.
I enjoyed staying here (tent camping). Rate is the best I’d seen and the extra touches were appreciated… comfy spring rockers in public spaces, piano in the lodge bathroom(!), free coffee and hot water in the lodge in the morning saved me from having to boil my own. Nice owners! Loved the lodge kitties.
Great stop if you’re a Waylon Jennings fan! So much to see in one room… wish I could have stayed longer. Very nice homage!
Nice place to camp. I had spot #11 by the creek so I had a nice lullaby to sleep to. Woke up to lovely deer grazing on the grass near the restrooms. Soda machine with cold drinks was nice amenity. Near the highway, so some vehicle noise but no biggie. Very little cell service for phone calls, but decent Wi-Fi.
When I pulled in to this campground, my first words were “Holy cow! This is incredible for $31.50!” (With AAA discount) My tent site was right at the lake’s edge (site D) and the river was just 100 yards on the other side of the camp. Large shade trees and excellent wifi (I was close to the office). Every worker at the campground was friendly and super helpful. Highly highly recommend this place! The store was well-stocked and nicely priced with everything I wanted (postcards, a patch, cute t-shirt for grandson, food, drinks). Very nice laundry room with lounge area included and a library. Can’t say enough good things about this place.
I stumbled across this most charming motel and stayed in the “Owl” room. It was like staying at my Aunt Kitty’s home with all the kitschy Knick-knacks and beaded curtains. Best price ever for a motel ($65 on 8/9/22). Fluffy towels, real mugs for the in-room coffee maker, complementary snacks and bottled water, Microwave, refrigerator, tall sunflowers outside the door, and a kind woman who welcomed me with a grandmotherly care. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates a homey touch.
