Breath-taking and heart-stopping beauty. Very beautiful drive but be aware, it is an intense drive. Many parts of the road without any guard rails. No shoulders. Several pull-outs which is helpful. There is a restroom facility at Rock Creek Vista Point. I wouldn't advise this route if you are in a hurry. It's not a good way to get from Point A to Point B. You need time to pull over and view the scenery as well as you can't go high rates of speed due to the many turns, inclines, declines, etc. But so worth it!
Amazing views! Nice rest stop area, great overlook, and lots of little ground squirrels to admire.
Wonderful hotel! Fresh, clean, great location, great breakfast, very helpful staff, etc. We liked it here so well that we re-routed our return trip to come back to this hotel.
Extensive research and knowledge is evident here. After touring the museum and watching a 15 minute video of the battle, we took the 4.5 mile drive around the memorial. They provide a phone number for you to call and at each stop you listen to the audio guide. Very educational and informative.
Just beautiful! Worth the few extra minutes it took to go out of the way for this scenic byway. Unique little towns along the way as well.
Another 'must' to add to the bucket list. Phenomenal views. Several single lane tunnels. We drove it twice because it was worth it!
Definitely add this to your bucket list! Mount Rushmore was under construction in a couple of places while we were there but we didn't feel slighted. The location of the memorial is so strategically placed that you can view it from multiple sites around the area - even miles away. There was a very good trail to hike to the bottom of the memorial (which is as close as we could get). It is uphill both ways lol. Take a walking stick if you need a little extra stability. Don't forget to stop by for ice cream at some point during your visit!
Must see! Awesome drive with awesome scenery. We drove it once in the rental car and again in a side-by-side rental. Perfect!
I wouldn't recommend this particular hotel for several reasons. They were out of hand soap. No wash cloths in the bathroom. Killed two bugs. Parking was difficult and not convenient. We changed rooms and still had bugs
Final solution: we checked out a night early and went to another hotel. We were past the time frame for a free cancellation so we paid for two hotel rooms for one night.
Wonderful place to stay! Clean, fresh, inviting, cozy, good location, reasonably priced.
