If you have any interest in cemeteries and the overall history of this area (and can walk on uneven and often steep dirt paths), this is a must-see waypoint. The self-guided tour was awesome, and there's an incredible sense of peace here.
We got here too late in the day to see the Devil's Bathtub, but we saw plenty of families coming back from it. The views are spectacular regardless of how far you hike, even just from the road.
This didn't look very interesting, but friends told us we couldn't come out this way without stopping here. It was WAY worth it. I had no idea that this was used in Close Encounters! The hiking path around the formation is relatively flat and easy, and the views all around are stunning. We agreed with our friends...this is an amazing place to see and experience.
HOLY MOLY! This was so much better than we expected. We had heard so much about it, but it exceeded our expectations. There's way more to see in just one visit, and we hope to go back in a few years after more work is done.
The visitor center and movie were beyond interesting, and the views were incredible. This is a fitting memorial for Native Americans who did so much for this country. We came later in the day, and we were fortunate to be there for the veteran ceremony (they read about a Native American who served in the US military, and the story was inspirational), and then they do a laser light show that's projected onto the partially completed Crazy Horse carving. HIGHLY recommend coming later in the day to be able to enjoy both of those.
We got here too late to take a cave tour, but the movie and visitor center (as well as the very pretty walking paths) made it worth the stop.
Unfortunately, this place is no longer open to the public post-COVID. They were very, very nice to us when we showed up, but they told us that we would need to make a reservation for a tour, and that the starting price was $600. They let us take pictures on the way back out, and they clearly care very much about these horses. Wish we could have seen more.
Everything was outstanding about this waypoint. The views on the drive and the wildlife...unbelievable!!! We sat and waited for herds of bison (and sometimes just adult/baby) to cross the road. They just ambled right down the center of the road, walking off to the side when they felt like it. They clearly own this park, and everyone was totally into it. The donkeys were ADORABLE and would come right up to cars to ask for food. Bring apples and carrots...they can't get enough of them! Major highlight of our vacation here!
STUNNING!!!! An absolutely gorgeous must-see part of our trip. We stopped several times to get out and get better views. Bring your binoculars for this one.
We went first thing in the morning and then came back to see it lighted up. Both were amazing! If you can time it like we did and bookend your day with this stunning view, do it. And be sure to watch the documentary film about it in the visitor center.
This was the first time any of us had been here, and it was mindblowing. Much, much more beautiful than pictures alone can express.
