Lined with two yoga mats, a flat sheet, two pillows and a sleeping bag to share, we prepared for our first evening under the stars at Honey Bear Campground – the first site I’ve ever been to where you can order firewood by text for delivery by golf cart. The site was beautiful and away from RVs, and the showers were clean with hot water.
In winter people travel here from around the world for world class ski and in the summer, it's the clear blue and emerald waters that people call paradise. There's also plenty to do off season in the fall, such as hiking! You'll need your sweater but it's a great way to get exercise, enjoy the beautiful terrain and not pay peak season prices.
I went on an 11 mile hike here in the fall. At its highest peaks you get sweeping views of the city and down below it truly feels like you're deep in the forest.
After hiking gorgeous trails of Muir Beach along the Pacific's edge, we rewarded ourselves with a delicious brunch at the Pelican Inn just up the road from where we parked. It's a traditional Scottish pub with delicious fare and drink (try the liver and onions - yum!). The place is a true hideaway with hydrangeas surrounding the old-style building and big wooden tables and candlelight inside. Truly cozy and delightful!
These gorgeous trails along the Pacific's edge are just 30 minutes from downtown San Francisco if you can beat the traffic. We hiked a few miles and scoped out Pirate's Cove, a harrowing climb down but beautiful foray to the beach and rough ocean waves. We rewarded our hike with a delicious brunch at the Pelican Inn just up the road from where we parked.
Stop looking for a statue of ladies, these are the lovely dollhouse looking buildings on Steiner Street.
This is an amazing work spot which even has its own drip coffee bar. Go early for a private desk.
Ever since I heard about this place from a 99% Invisible podcast my curiosity was struck. All that's left now are the ruins and pools abutting the edge of North America, truly mesmerizing.
The day I walked here the fog was heavy, the ocean powerful and the scene both beautiful and eerie. Be sure to check out the visitors center and Sutro Baths while you're there.
This is a great spot for beautiful vintage furniture.
