Yep, there is a spot with a flat stone and memorabilia left by weirdos like my family and me. The best part is the old cemetery. find Cemetery Rd then go until you see the cemetery on the left.
It is what it is. A grave in the middle of the road. My kids thought I was crazy but then saw it as a great photo op. There is an historic marker sharing a bit of the history. Her grave is the last of the cemetery that once was there. It is only a couple of blocks off the traveled path, we enjoyed to short diversion.
Oh my what a view. It is what you see in all those pictures where the water is so clean it is an unbelievable blue and has shades of turquoise in it. Yes I recommend it. It is off the beaten path but worth the investment of travel time.
We did not have reservations. We were thinking we would not get to go until we heard about getting there early and they often have tickets available. We got there at 7 - there was already a line of 48 in front of us! We did get tickets and had a great tour. They also had coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts for sale for those in line. It is a good trip!
We needed a place to stay and usually choose a chain. I am glad they were all full. The Pickwick was not only available it was a great choice. The old hotel has great character and a fantastic location. Uber came in handy too!
Free and Fun! It is hard to find anything worth doing for an affordable price in San Francisco. We drove it twice! then we parked and took pictures with the road in the background. Just parking around the corner was a first. We had to park on a steep hill! The kids enjoyed it. It was just too short.
So Glad we Stopped! It was affordable and we fit a Tahoe through it. the other visitors were willing to take our video and picture as we passed through. We had a wonderful time!
Large Rooms. 1970's decor and clean. I was grateful for a clean place to sleep. The mattress was an old box spring that did squeak, but it was comfortable and we all slept well. The a/c did not work will but the weather was cool enough to open the window and let it air out before we went to sleep.
We loved the beach and the view. The sea side town loves catering to tourists and has the shops and restaurants to service the crowds.
They are serious about "Stay Away!" Kinda sad, they could make a lot of money and make people happy. It is private property and we did respect that, it was just saddened that they purchase a piece of film history and reject it all. You can get a glimpse and a 'sorta' picture from the public road. There are sign "no stopping" but since it is a public road I did not feel bad for stopping there. We did not stay long.
