Take note: the address listed is for the visitor center which is a 1 hour drive away from the actual forest. This caused some confusion and road trip reorganization for me.
After a night in Kanab we stopped by here on our way to Zion. It was a nice 20 min drive and the main road leading to it had tons of alcoves to pull off into for some under the radar camping. The dunes themselves are closed to all but 4x4 offroaders - its a nice place, but I wish I brought a dirtbike.
Beautiful camp ground, however as of 3/16 the lake is about 50% dried up along with most of the water relate activities.
Great for morning and evening photography - it's a very small turn off on a farming road with a few informational signs and benches to aid the crane watching.

I didn't book in advance so the actual cost for me was $110.
I've stayed in nicer $50 motels.
