Went to McKee Botanical Gardens on St Patrick's Day. We felt like we were in Jurassic Park with a little of the Vikings on the side. It was an amazing and wonderful place. They even have dinosaurs that move and roar! They have a large climbing area for the kids deep in the "jungle"! It was great. There are ponds and so many flowers and beautiful lush landscape all throughout. The trees are magnificent! We wondered for hours and just loved taking pics and seeing all the beautiful scenery. There are several tiki huts throughout and one large Tiki House. Yes, do go! You will love it. Take bug spray. We sprayed before walking through and were totally fine. They have a gift shop, library and cafe! All the essentials! I can't say enough about this great place!!!
Visited Dante's on Feb 3,2022. Went for happy hour, early dinner! Sat outside close to pool. Beautiful set up. The food was good, the Key lime pie was good and the drinks were half price. Music playing and plenty of people in the pool. It is right close to the wharf and you can watch the boats come and go. Nice place
We visited The Boat House on Jan 21,2022. They have one of the best Happy hours in Key West! They have "small" plates and all are half price at happy hour. Have a drink list also half off. We did the Boat House 3 times while we were in Key West. We loved their baby back ribs, fall off the bone, their buffalo shrimp was yummy, the house bread was the best I've ever had!!! We ate outside close to the wharf and it was great! The waitstaff was exceptional. They were so accommodating and nice. We never had to wait long. It was always pretty crowded at dinner time but going at happy hour saved you a lot of time. The food is really wonderful!

We did the Conch train on Jan 11,2022. We had visitors with us and decided it would be a good way to learn our way around Key West. We were right! It was an amazing ride. We had a great tour guide with all the stories and the stops. We hopped off at one stop and walked down the street to have lunch at a great place called La Te Da! Loved it. After looking around we went back to our train stop and took the next train to finish out our tour. The tour guide was not the same one and not quite as good but it was still the way to see Key West in the beginning!!! It cost but it is so worth it. The train station has great souvenirs and bathrooms!! Take it, you'll like it!!
We ventured out to the Dry Tortugas on Jan 18, 2022. We took the Sea Plane because we had never done it and we figured it was time! Absolutely NO regrets! Capt John made sure it was an adventure worth taking. First he walked out to meed us in bermuda shorts and barefooted! He had great head sets for all and we had his and another narrator for the entire trip going and coming. If they weren't narrating, we had music! They had coolers with water to offer us. It was a total of 4 hrs for our trip. 40min flight to island, 40 min return and the rest on the island unchaperoned. We had brought snacks and lunch, whatever you wanted. There is nothing to buy there. We headed straight for the beach and set up. My hubby wanted to to explore the Fort so he did. I stayed and started out snorkeling. It was a little on the cool side and breezy so the water was not really clear. It wasn't the best snorkeling day but it was so fun just being there. We could not take anything from the island but it was exciting just finding different things from the beach back home. After we packed up and went over to the picnic tables to eat and wait for our plane to come back in. It was a great day but I have to say I totally loved the plane. We'll try the ferry if we go back but I'm glad we did the plane first!!
We went to Mallory Square after a day in town doing all the fun stuff. We wanted to see a wonderful sunset and check out all the attractions they supposedly had there at the Square! They do this daily and that's unbelievable to me! They are surrounded by good restaurants and many local bars! We settled in and had a lovely sunset. The music was playing from several locations! There was a fire eater on a unicycle in the middle and many other things going on around the square! It was indeed a great time but, when the sunset is over, most start to fade away and head for home or inside to the various restaurants or bars! It is truly a unique little adventure!
We visited Ft Zachary St Park on Jan 15,2022. We went for a day at the beach. We live in Panama City Beach, Fl so our beach standards are very high. We already knew the beaches in Key West are not as soft, white sand as ours but we do love beaches! We were very pleasantly surprised with plenty of parking and then to round the corner and find bathhouse with concession stand was a happy surprise! Then after we changed, we went to find our "spot" and found a cabana that furnished lounge chairs and umbrellas for a fee. We don't usually do this at hotels but we were planning on staying a long while so my husband got us chairs and an umbrella. Thanks honey! They set them up for us and we were happy to start sunning for the day. The beach was very nice but of course coral so water shoes are very helpful. The water was great temp and I swam. Many snorkeled, Cabana had gear to rent also. Bob walked over to the fort and toured it. I stayed and enjoyed the beach. I have to say it was the best beach time I had while in the keys!
We visited the cafe on Jan 24,2022. It was very eclectic which I like a lot! We sat outside outback on the beautiful patio under the trees. It was shaded, warm, the fence was painted with beautiful murals, and our waiter was very nice and attentive! It was too early for lunch but we wanted Key lime pie and coffee! We relaxed and enjoyed just being there with music in the background. We also decided to order a pizza to take back to the camp for dinner later. It was awesome as well!! It's a little on the hippy side but I love that flavor also!! Would definitely go again!!
We were staying at Serendipity RV Park and decided to take a drive up to Lake Jackson to see the Sea Center and then have lunch down in Surf Side. Lake Jackson is very small and doesn't have a lot to see but I will tell you, we had a very good time at the Sea Center. It is run by volunteers who really care about their jobs and entertaining you with information about what the Sea Center does. They are great! We did not tour the hatchery because it was raining but we totally enjoyed our trip!! It is really worth the visit!!
