Tantalus Estate sits on eight hectares of free-draining sandy soil over weathered clay and rock, in the heart of Waiheke’s wine growing country. Our aim is to produce dense, complex Bordeaux and Rhone-style reds that will age beautifully. It’s a truism that great wines are made in the vineyard. Our north-south orientation means the vines enjoy plentiful light and warmth. Our location on an island in Auckland’s Hauraki Gulf means a long growing season, allowing red wine grapes in particular to reach their full potential. Our Estate in the Onetangi Valley includes 5.3 hectares of vineyards, a winery, a craft brewery and an expansive, light-filled restaurant with a seasonal menu built around fresh, local produce. Its location among other reputable wineries some only a walking distance away makes the valley a great destination to spend the day.
