“Wines with Soul”
This boutique vineyard comprises 4.5 acres of closely planted vines, was established in 1987, and is placed amongst the oldest of Martinborough's wine producers. Still family owned and operated, by Shawn the son of founder Willie Brown, who is currently the only second generation wine maker in Martinborough. Shawn believes in producing wines reflective of their vintage with minimal intervention. Now seen as very unusual in the New Zealand wine industry, Muirlea Rise winery still use cork because they believe cellared wine develops best under cork. The wines they produce include a Pinot Noir aged in French Oak and typically unfiltered, Mareth, an old school Cabernet Syrah styled blend barrel aged for 3 years. And of course, Apres - This wine liquor has a loyal following appreciative of its up front sweetness and dry brandy finish.
