“Uniting people and objects.”
Mumma T Trading Lounge is a large concept store created by long term locals Trish & Tim Coleman. Formerly they were the founders, and owner for seventeen years, of the popular and awarded restaurant/cafe Nor'Wester. The Trading Lounge is situated directly opposite the restaurant in the centre of the thriving town of Amberley, North Canterbury, New Zealand. It is the flagship store for The Sheds and occupies the property formerly used by CRT (Farmlands). The building and site has provenance as a grain and seed supplier and is an important part of Amberley and surrounds agricultural history.
The Trading Lounge includes a curated collection of second-hand homeware, furniture, clothing and possessions. This is complimented with a range of new, sourced from leading furniture and homeware suppliers such as Hawthorne, Le Forge and French Country Collections.
The cleverness around this ‘department’ like store is the stylish mix of old and new. Inspiration can be gleaned from the styled settings that occupy the store where eras are mixed to achieve spaces with layered interest. There is a broad mix of objects to covet, including lighting and artwork, combining a mix of modern, vintage, retro, antiques and collectables. These are all chosen by Trish’s sharp eye. Stock is sourced from all over and the hunt is constantly on for unique, interesting and quirky pieces. The edit of collectables makes for a great hunt to find that special piece to personalise the home.
Who will love this store? Home innovators and renovators, stylists, interior designers, commercial designers, those evolving a unique home and garden space, and of course collectors.
