I've read too many reviews on other travel sites that don't get this place. The beach and snorkeling are amazing. The hotel is ON the beach. You spend your day outside under the palms with a good book. Or you grab your fins and mask and spend an hour in the bay swimming with the AMAZING sea life, especially the TURTLES!!

If you want pampering, stay the hell north, please! Stay in your pool up there with it's constant disco beat and the bar in the middle. Join their tour buses that drive down here and pull up in Akumal and spend 20 minutes snorkeling before heading back to your wonderful 5 star resort. If that's your thing, this place is NOT for you.

Yes, the hotel rooms here are very basic, but inexpensive, which is the whole point! You don't get 5 million thread count sheets or a posturepedic bed. When you step outside in the morning, you realize all that is so unimportant. Sleep on your very comfortable beach lounge chair under the palms swaying in the breeze!

Akumal Beach Resort is for those looking for an inexpensive vacation in a fantastic place. Be sure and book a room on the first floor so you can walk right out to the beach, it's way more convenient than an upper floor.
