“more than 1,200,000 tulips on display”
Kamiyubetsu is located north of Asahikawa just short of the Okhotsk coast line and is home to one of the most popular flower festivals on the Hokkaido flower calendar. From early May to early June, Kamiyubetsu takes centre stage as the most popular day-trip destination following the long Hokkaido winter, with local and international tourists descending on the town in large numbers to enjoy over 120 varieties of tulips, with more than 1,200,000 tulips in total. The best way to get there from Asahikawa is by rental car, giving you the freedom to time your own itinerary, while at the same time ample opportunity to take in the spectacular spring scenery along the way.
Simply Amazing!!
It was a long trip from Tokyo but was totally worth it. We arrived there almost at the end of the Tulip festival and although some flowers were already past its peak, the park was still very beautiful. It was so different from everything we saw in Japan that I almost felt like we were somewhere else.
If you are planning to visit Japan during spring, this should definitely be in your list of places to visit.
It sure is a long ride of train, plane and bus from Tokyo but this park made my jaw drop. Coming from a country (read:Philippines) that doesn't have tulips around then coming here to see them in different colors and kinds brought tears to my eyes. Just kidding! :) For an additional small fee you can also pick flowers for you to take home. Bummer since I don't live there but still, for me, its the best park e.v.e.r.!!!! Oh! Oh! Oh! They also have a museum around but closes early so its best to go inside the museum first before going wild inside the park.
