“On the 8th of December 2014 residents of Ardrossan woke to the sad news of 10 Sperm Whales beaching themselves on Parara Beach, this goes down as one of the saddest days in their recent history.”

To mark this historic event it was suggested by a local resident that a memorial be established. Because Ardrossan is noted for its dolomite, dolomite boulders were placed in the same positions as the whales were when they were beached.

An area was set aside for the memorial boulders to be laid. Seven boulders were chosen in various sizes to represent the whale's size. The name plaques with the size of the whales were places onto each boulder. These boulders are now a memorial park at Parara Beach.
