Quinkan Country is rich in Aboriginal history and home to world famous rock art sites. The small township of Laura is located in the heart of Quinkan Country and is home to a wonderful new attraction of the region - the Quinkan and Regional Cultural Centre. Quinkan Country also bears witness to Queensland's pioneering heritage. Gold rushes, historic railways and pastoralism are part of the fascinating and continuing story. The Quinkan and Regional Cultural Centre is the first stop for all travellers to Laura. The Quinkan Centre showcases all aspects of Quinkan Country including Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal heritage and the natural environment. Visitor Information facilities are available for all the National Parks of Cape York Peninsula as well as most of the popular attractions of the region. The Centre also has arts and crafts from Cape York available for sale as well as a select range of hot and cold beverages. Guided tours can only be booked through the Centre, including guided tours to world famous Aboriginal rock art galleries such as Split Rock, Mushroom Rock and Giant Horse Gallery and most spectacularly the Quinkan Galleries. These tours are guided by the most experienced Indigenous guides in Cape York.
